July 29: Dedicated to the Wild Ones

Walkin' after dark, solo, distant,
and cooler than any other time this week
but gotta watch one's step to keep from face-planting over things that would be apparent in the light of day
I saw a fox carrying its prey,
trotting just ahead of me across the street.
Intermittently lit by the few streetlights or car headlights going off the other way at the round-about
Where was it going? Home to the kits?
Such a rapid, focused journey.
Where do the wild ones live in the middle
of the paved and residenced landscape - how close by?
Too dark, and I am feeling skittish and alien now.
Turned for home
Dedicated to the Wild Ones
