Everyone lighted a votive as they shared their story of Suzy.

We had the formal memorial for my big sister Suzy last weekend.
It was a beautiful day, sandwiched between two days of drenching downpours.
Penny brought home-grown flowers from her farm in Vermont. Gorgeous.

The first Women's Distance Festival 5k of 2008!

“It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts.” ~ Henry David Thoreau ~

I filled the yard and planter boxes with purple flower bulbs last fall, as a memorial to my friend Sherry, and to my big sister Suzy, both of whom passed away in 2007 from recurrences of breast cancer.
Spring 2008 is my Purple Memory Garden Spring.

When I left my job yesterday, driving out of the parking lot, I noticed the trees abloom in the park across the street. So I went to the park.

It does not fill me with ease to see all the roadside memorials when I go out for a run. But if I ever am struck and killed while running, I hope no one will memorialize me with fake flowers on a metal guard rail. Instead, plant a flowering tree somewhere sheltered, and remember me there.

This is my avocado plant leaf in the sunlight. It really IS this intense green. I did not do any editing at all on this shot.

Jamie is the male vocalist in a performance on Maryland's Eastern Shore. He grew up with Big Bands and singing. His Dad was the leader of a Baltimore Orchestra.

who am i
behind the veil
the veil of missing you
of going about my day to day
as if you had not left my life
forever
forever
forever
and never never will i be the same

He looks so satisfied! He didn't really eat any canaries...

Jamie performed for a convention of florists. The castmembers were each given a gorgeous arrangement to take home. :-)
