Sherry, you may have to refrigerate your bulbs for awhile to "simulate winter" before they'll grow in your climate. Or else look for some that are specially bred for Southern climates. It would be a hassle - if I weren't in the right climate for bulbs, I wouldn't go to extreme measures for them, I'd choose something else to plant - but I would miss them. Spring flowers are my favorites. Daffodils do better here than tulips, though - TOO MANY CREATURES eating my tulip bulbs! HEY! You can also buy the "forced" bulb sets at garden websites, or K-Mart and Wal-Mart should have some - Why don't you ask for some for Christmas? :-)
Hah! Nancy gardens like I do. But since I have a new house this year I did buy a few bags and dug 3 holes as an experiment. If they don't bloom we'll move right along to whatever perennials I can beg from my relatives.
* Life is change.
** Born in New Jersey. (A Jersey Girl, but I don't know "What Exit".) I went to college in Iowa. (NOT in a cornfield, but close.) I was a New Yorker. The proverbial Struggling Actor in Manhattan, and surviving pretty well for 20-something-ish years (I *heart* New York.)
*** Now I live below the Mason-Dixon line. (But I'm born and bred a YANKEE.)
***For awhile, I was an avid-almost-rabid runner, running WITH my camera much of the time. I have been experiencing some "aging ? and other issues", but I still doggedly clod-hoppily-plod my way through events, camera usually in hand. Now I'm even SLOWER than I used to be. *** :-P ***
** I used to help socialize local humane society cats in their foster home, and take photos for the website, but my Haven kitties moved to a farm in Virginia in May 2018. ~meow~
Awaiting my next incarnation, or not....***
I still have a phondness for photography & a recurring Flickr Addiction, so go see my photos!

Ugh! I thought about planting some this fall.... then laid down until the impulse passed.
