I can't believe you got pictures! Snakes give me the willies - I would have been shaking too much to get a shot. That is, if I hadn't run off screaming first!
Nope...I shrieked like a girl when it first moved, quicksilver down the hill away from me...then I shrieked like a girl AGAIN, when I saw what it WAS.
Ran into the house...got my husband...who came out (like a BOY! Looking for a big STICK to POKE it/them with) and he searched for where it had fled at my second shriek (into the edge of the Forest Primeval, down the Ravine from my back slope).
He found them easily - a snake in the act of swallowing another snake more than half it's size doesn't have as much mobility as it otherwise would have, I don't suppose, and the Lunch-Meat Snake had that bright orange stripe, which made it easy to spot the pair - while I waited UP behind the retaining wall. Then I ran back into the house for the camera. With a zoom lens. The snakes were at LEAST 5 feet away from me when I took the pics. I ventured gingerly down ONLY as far as the bottom of my back slopes - NOT into the Forest Primeval with the reptiles. And I'd put my BOOTS on before I ventured back down there!
Then I stayed in the house most of the rest of the day. I did do some mulching around the TOP of my terrace garden on the back slope. With my BOOTS on. :-O
Yeah, but you still GOT THE PICTURES!!! If I'm ever charged by a grizzly or stalked by a mountain lion, if I have to go that way I hope I at least get pictures.
* Life is change.
** Born in New Jersey. (A Jersey Girl, but I don't know "What Exit".) I went to college in Iowa. (NOT in a cornfield, but close.) I was a New Yorker. The proverbial Struggling Actor in Manhattan, and surviving pretty well for 20-something-ish years (I *heart* New York.)
*** Now I live below the Mason-Dixon line. (But I'm born and bred a YANKEE.)
***For awhile, I was an avid-almost-rabid runner, running WITH my camera much of the time. I have been experiencing some "aging ? and other issues", but I still doggedly clod-hoppily-plod my way through events, camera usually in hand. Now I'm even SLOWER than I used to be. *** :-P ***
** I used to help socialize local humane society cats in their foster home, and take photos for the website, but my Haven kitties moved to a farm in Virginia in May 2018. ~meow~
Awaiting my next incarnation, or not....***
I still have a phondness for photography & a recurring Flickr Addiction, so go see my photos!

AWESOME! A snake eating another snake. It's all part of the great pyramid of life. Thanks for the pics.
Yikes! I'd a run away.
I agree with the Clever Executioner, your photos have always something special. You have a gift, yes!

I hate snakes. Hey... if Indiana Jones can not like them, it's fair for the rest of us not to, isn't it? :)
